Vietnam’s Secret Paradise: Discover the Untouched Island Gem
Phu Yen province administers the northern part of the island, while the southern part is administered by another province.
Traveling along National Highway 1 across Ca Pass in the south-central region, tourists can easily see Hon Nua Island, located nearly one nautical mile away from the shore.
The small island is approximately 35 kilometers south of Tuy Hoa City, the heart of Phu Yen Province.
On sunny days, the island, with its crystal-clear emerald-green water, becomes even more alluring.
This island is shrouded in mystery due to the presence of several large rocks scattered throughout.

A red lighthouse, built in 2002, stands on the island.
According to a representative from the South-Central Maritime Safety Company, the lighthouse plays a crucial role in guiding boats and ships navigating the waters off Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa.
Although no professional tourism services are available on the island, its wildness and dreamy beauty attract swarms of tourists who rent ships or speedboats to reach the island for photoshoots.
“Immersing my face in the crystal-clear water [off the island] to admire the coral reefs is an amazing experience,” expressed Le Thi Bich Tuyen, a 38-year-old resident of Dong Nai Province in southern Vietnam, after her trip to Hon Nua.
Tran Minh Hieu, 29, from Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa, hopes for more tourism development programs on the island to attract even more visitors.
In early 2024, the Phu Yen Province People’s Committee held a conference to promote tourism and solicit investments for 33 projects in the South Phu Yen Economic Zone and 37 other projects.
The provincial administration has also called on investors to transform Hon Nua Island into a tourist attraction for leisure travel.
Nguyen Van Hong, vice-chairman of the Dong Hoa Town People’s Committee in Phu Yen Province, is highly optimistic about the island’s immense tourism potential.
